Return of the Landpower

The iconic Landini Landpower is back in Europe. The two Stage V models – 160 (155/165hp) and 180 (166/175hp) – are described as strong, reliable and reasonably priced.The Italian made range disappeared from Europe early 2015 (replaced by the four-pot 6L series), but Argo tractors continues to make Stage III six-cylinder models at the Fabbrico plant for non-emission markets as the Landpower II  125, 135, 145 and 165 (117hp to 157hp).Slotting in between the current four-pot 6RS range (up to 155hp) and 7 series SWB (7-165 and 7-175), the new Stage V Landpowers for the European market share their front end and 6.7l FPT six-pot 24-valve block with the latter.However, this is not mated to a Robo-Six (six-speed powershift) or VShift (CVT), but to the same T-Tronic powershift currently offered on Stage III Landpower tractors. Not all customers want a CVT, and the 54f x 18r speeds provided by the six gear/three range T-Tronic will be sufficient for some users. A creeper unit increases the number of gears to 105f x 36r (minimum speed 350m/hr) and the transmission has a top speed of 40km/hr.Mounted on silent blocks (air suspended seat option), the cab is also from the Landpower II. Updates over the Stage III models include the larger 280l fuel tank (+38l AdBlue) and the wheelbase has been stretched from 2.73m to 2.88m.The closed-centre hydraulics provides 38l/min (steering) and 110l/min to the five rear mechanical spool valves. Lift capacity of the electronically controlled Cat II/III rear linkage is 8.4t (external controls on the rear fenders). The tyres are 540/65R28 (front) and 650/65R38 (rear), and the maximum permissible gross weight of the 6.7t tractors is 11.3t. PTO speeds are 540 and 1000.Eastern Europe will probably be the destination of the first units, and the new Landpower will be exhibited for the first time at the FTMTA show in July.Incidentally, the Stage III Landpower II is also available as the McCormick G-Max II for non-emission markets.
