New Holland concept - is this the future for tractors
Once again New Holland has gone all out to wow the crowds at the Farm Progress Show. Last year it was the autonomous tractor projects but this year visitors to the North American machinery show are being treated to a revamped and very futuristic looking version of the methane powered tractor concept.
While New Holland is making a big thing of the methane fuelled engine (see profi 09/2016 for a driving impression of the earlier T6.180 concept) it is the technology in the bubble cab which is the really interesting stuff. Wrap around glazing gives a pretty much unobstructed view, even the cab roof is a glass dome, but if this wasn’t enough there is a 360deg camera system – hence the lack of mirrors.
An interactive display at head level allows the operator to swipe information across to the steering column display and back again to refine tractor functions. Not only that but it is possible to carry out some tractor operations via a smartphone app such as hitching implements from ground level. And then there is the autonomous driving technology which could be integrated into the design, something which would be essential if the air-conditioning ever packed up on the glasshouse cab and you still wanted to get work done.
Surely New Holland will be bringing the second generation methane tractor to Agritechnica in November but in the meantime if you want to see the tractor in action click on the You Tube link - https://youtu.be/ftMlRrzjXz8
